Datong health bureau, along with hotels and the city’s center for disease control (CDC) launched a large-scale propaganda activity on Dec 1, the day of World AIDS Day.
Organizers spread AIDS prevention and cure knowledge to the general public through promotional materials and they also offered consulting and testing services.
The local CDC gave out free eco-friendly shopping bags printed with consulting telephone numbers and condoms.
According to Jia Yushan, CDC’s deputy director, they offer free medicine to the city’s patients. He also stressed that ordinary contact with the patients, such as shaking hands, hugging and dining, will not transmit the disease.
Jia said the public needs to learn more about AIDS to prevent discrimination so that those affected by the disease can readily receive care.
