Datong delegates won a total of 11 medals, including two gold medals, at the 7th Chinese City Games, which concluded on October 25 in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi province.
The 98 athletes from Datong played in 16 major competition events, wining two first prizes in martial arts and table tennis, two silver medals from the table tennis women’s team and men’s freestyle wrestling.
Datong athletes were also granted the sportsmanship award, which is a bumper harvest.
The City Games, inaugurated in 1988, is regarded as a platform for young athletes to gain experience. It's also an opportunity for sports scouts to seek talented athletes and establish the backing forces for China.
This year’s competition, themed "red heroic city and green game”, has drawn more than 6,000 athletes from 57 delegations across the nation. Participants competed in 301 events from 25 sports in the Chinese version of the Youth Olympics.
