Lantern Show
The 3.7-kilometer-long ancient walls of Taiyuan county have been decorated with 141 groups of lanterns made by some 300 craftspeople who designed the Chinese lantern festival during the 2017 G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany. The lantern show has been divided into five parts with different themes such as the folk customs of Spring Festival, international animations, and social trends.
Folk Custom Show
Folk custom shows, intangible cultural heritage performances and temple fairs, such as dough modeling, lion dancing and walking on stilts, are displayed in the ancient Taiyuan county. Visitors are also able to access different local specialties including decorated steamed buns and mutton soup, allowing them to sample a taste of Taiyuan during the coming Spring Festival.
Ice and Snow Park
Featuring ice and snow themed winter sports, Li-Ning Ski Resort in Wujin Mountain has opened an ice and snow entertainment park in ancient Taiyuan county for visitors to Taiyuan Ancient Town Lantern Carnival from Jan 1 to March 8. The 20,000-square-meter park offers 10 activities including snowfield tanks for recreation, snowmobiles, and snow slides.
Aerospace VR Exhibition & Dome Theater
Tourists can enjoy 12 virtual reality experience programs, such as mock lunar landings, parachute jumping, flying, and roller coasters –– allowing them to experience the latest aerospace science and technology. The dynamic dome theater where full-dome digital movies with stereophonic effects are shown, allows audiences to become immersed in the movies they are watching.
Mobile Theater
Chinese acrobatics is a time-honored performance art with each performer having received considerable martial arts training. An acrobatics troupe, which has performed in Canada, Russia, the United States and France stages exciting Chinese acrobatics shows such as motorcycle globe ring displays and aerial hoop acts at a 1,100-seat mobile theater in the ancient Taiyuan county.
Ming Dynasty Fair
Ancient Taiyuan county founded in 1375 has been restored to its Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) appearance and is hosting a Ming Dynasty Fair to celebrate its past. Tourists can tour government offices of the Ming Dynasty, dress up in clothing from the era, and learn the history while playing 12 kinds of games popular during that period, including pitch-pot and cuju (ancient Chinese football game).
