Colorful lotus flowers of various species are in full bloom at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, offering tourists some picturesque views.
The blooming period for lotuses is generally from June to September. Now is the best time to appreciate the big, colorful and long-lasting flowers.
Since its establishment, Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden has planted eight lotus species in the waters spanning from the Buran Bridge in West Lake to the cruise ship pier in the garden, especially around the Buran Bridge near Meilanzhu Island and the side of the cruise ship pier. People can appreciate the lotuses by taking ferries or strolling down paths along the route.
After more than 10 years of natural breeding, the eight varieties produce white, yellow, pink, red and mixed colors. These particular lotus flowers complement each other with varying pigments.
According to COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control requirements, visitors must undergo body temperature, health code and venue code checks, wear masks, and show a negative nucleic acid test result taken within 72 hours prior to entry. Those with temperatures above 37.3℃, and those who have yellow or red health codes, will be forbidden to enter.
The garden said people have to make online reservations at least one day prior to their planned visit. It is currently open from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, and the visitor limit is capped at 50 percent of maximum capacity.
The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden is a national 4A-level scenic spot. It is located in the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort in Shanghai's Songjiang district and covers an area of 207 hectares, making it the largest botanical garden in East China.
