The Duoyun Bookstore at Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park was rated as the most beautiful bookstore in China in 2019 and the most beautiful destination for reading in Songjiang district, Shanghai.
It has been opened to visitors for free since the Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park in the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort opened its public area for free on June 1.
The bookstore's design features a mix of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and modern elements. It includes three courtyards, each with a two-story building. There are various zones featuring different themes to satisfy reading needs.
The "reading Jiangnan" zone includes books about the culture of Songjiang, Shanghai and Jiangnan (the area south of the Yangtze River). The books are categorized according to Chinese studies, philosophy, art, and Chinese history.
The Chinese and overseas books reading zone hosts high-quality books on literature, life, social sciences, economics and management in different languages.
The upgraded parent-child reading zone provides high-quality books for children including more than 500 children's picture books and books on life, literature, social sciences and economics for parents.
There is also a zone containing books recommended by representative scholars and artists in Shanghai and a zone featuring more than 100 books about anecdotes by celebrities and customs and geography.
In addition to regular books, Duoyun has ancient thread-bound books about the history and culture of Songjiang district.
The bookstore will also update the top recommended books on its special bookshelves every month.
Various cultural and creative products are also available at Duoyun, including handbags, long handle umbrellas, scarves, badges, stamps, and fridge magnets.
Private rooms on the second floor offer readers a quiet environment to read.
Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park, where the bookstore is located, is dubbed the "Root of Shanghai" and offers a glimpse into the lives of its inhabitants 5,000 years ago.
