May

The Shanghai 65m Radio Telescope in Sheshan Tourist Resort won an award at the Shanghai Science and Technology Award Conference on May 15. Towering over the Shanghai Sheshan Observatory Workstation, the giant facility is powerful enough to observe celestial bodies more than 10 billion light years away.

With its dish standing 70 meters high and an aperture of 65 meters, the radio telescope is able to spin all the way around on its axis and has a huge frequency range, making it the highest functional telescope in Asia.

June

The Shanghai Quarry Garden was featured on China's Central Television 1 (CCTV1) for its amazing work in quarry restoration. The Quarry Garden, located in Chenshan Botanical Garden, covers an area of 207 hectares and was designed by Zhu Yufan from Tsinghua University. It also won the prestigious Landscape Institute Award in London in November, 2018.

July and August

The Playa Maya Water Park opened to the public on July 5, staging a series of festivities and offering an enticing escape from the summer heat.

During the day, visitors can enjoy giant roller coasters and other water-related rides, participate in parties, or dance to the music. At night, they can enjoy eye-catching shows put on by artists from Eastern Europe and South America. The park was open until Sept 1.
