It is an ink-washed painting on Xuande paper, 1′9″6 high and 1′1″1 wide, created by Dong Qichang at 58 years old in the 40th year of Emperor Wanli's reign in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1612). In late autumn of that year, he visited the nine peaks and three rivers by boat and drew this painting. The painting is known only from the description in the Record of Dong Huating's Paintings and Calligraphy. Perhaps it was lost during population movements in later generations.
