Lujiazui hosts Shanghai-style Yangko dance contest

A Shanghai-style Yangko dance contest was held in the Lujiazui financial area of Shanghai's Pudong New District on Oct 25.
A total of 26 teams from Lujiazui communities took part in the event and gave excellent performances.
After fierce competition, four teams stood out and won first prizes, with another eight teams receiving the second prizes.
The Yangko, smooth, happy and compact in rhythm, is China's most representative folk dance.
The Lujiazui communities are the birthplace of the Shanghai-style Yangko dance, which particularly features joyous movements, abundant dance language, exuberant gestures and vivid expressions. The communities have created 12 dance patterns so far.
The folk dance has now become a popular sporting event promoting neighborhood communication and adding vitality to the financial district.
Organizers of the contest said that they expect to increase the exposure of Shanghai-style Yangko dance and promote a healthy lifestyle among local residents.
