Arts, culture and music in Pudong during May Day holiday

Various cultural events will be taking place in Pudong New District, Shanghai during the upcoming May Day holiday, which runs from April 30 to May 2 this year, Pudong Times reported on April 21.

Let's take a quick look at those events, featuring music festivals, dramas and musicals.

Shanghai Spring International Music Festival

The Shanghai Spring International Music Festival is an annual event that began in May, 1960. This year the festival will be held at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center and will consist of nine shows, with the first being a music concert given by a Chinese soprano Huang Ying on April 30.

One highlight of the event will be an orchestra festival in the Lujiazui area on May 1 and 2, where visitors will be able to see performances by dozens of Chinese and foreign orchestras.

Shanghai Strawberry Music Festival

The Shanghai Strawberry Music Festival will be launched at the World Expo Park from April 30 to May 2, with the participation of hundreds of top musicians from China and abroad, such as the UK's electronic music group, The Prodigy, Italian rockers, Octopuss, and Finland's heavy metal group, Insomnium.

Spring Wave Music Festival (Shanghai stop)

Taiwan's Spring Wave Music Festival will make its debut in Shanghai on April 30 and May 1, starring 13 groups of Chinese pop singers and bands, such as Xiao Jingteng, Tan Weiwei, and S.H.E.

Daguan Drama Season

The Daguan Drama Season will kick off at the Daguan Theater at the Shanghai Himalayas Museum on April 29. The event will last until July and stage eight Chinese and foreign plays, including musicals, children's dramas, and fantasy. The first show will be Taiwan's original musical Non-reading Club on April 29 and 30.
