The craftsman Hu Sufen has created sachets in the shape of the mascot for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Shuey Rhon Rhon with Anting blue calico, which is an intangible cultural heritage (ICH) item in Jiading district.
Shuey Rhon Rhon is shaped like a traditional Chinese lantern and is embellished with Chinese characteristics such as ruyi designs and paper-cutting, which led Hu to create sachets in the style of the mascot.
"I hope this will help attract people's attention to traditional Chinese culture, intangible cultural heritages, and this is my way to support the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics," Hu said.
Local residents who are interested in handicrafts have been attracted to learn how to make Shuey Rhon Rhon sachets from Hu.
In addition to the head, they also fill Shuey Rhon Rhon's body parts with thick cotton, and glue leather snowflakes to the top of the mascot. After painting eyes and rosy cheeks, an Anting blue calico-made mascot is done.
"It is a good way to support the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics as well as an opportunity to learn and inherit traditional Chinese culture and Jiading intangible cultural heritages," said a local resident surnamed Zhu.
