Shanghai's Jiading district commenced on Dec 28 the first section upgrading project of Hengli River, the district's mother river.
The first section of the project stretches 3.62 kilometers from Nanshuiguan in the north to Yining Road in the south.
Aimed at improving the ecological and service functions of the riverside space, the project includes opening nine under-bridge blockage points on both the east and west sides of the river, connecting seven estuary breakpoints and forming 8 km of cycling paths on both sides of the river and 9 km of running paths.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Jiading district will mainly promote greenway penetration and landscape improvement along the Hengli River.
When the project is finished, the core area of both the Jiading New Area and old town will be optimized and a demonstration area that integrates ecological improvement, industries and city, vitality, and ancient and modern culture will be established.
