Jiading to make environmental protection efforts

Jiading district in Shanghai plans to promote 102 projects in 10 fields with a total investment of over 4.18 billion yuan ($645.65 million), according to the Three-Year (2021-2023) Plan on environmental protection.

The projects expected to be accomplished by the end of the year include building sewage treatment facilities for 1,000 rural households, reconstructing the rain and sewage mixing in 40 communities, increasing the proportion of new energy buses to 76 percent, adding 900 charging facilities, building one taxi charging demonstration station, increasing the mechanized road cleaning rate in urbanized areas to 95 percent, and building four open recreational woodlands, two characteristic roads, and two street gardens.

This year's plan is aimed at sustainable improvement of environment.

Jiading district made significant achievements in environmental protection during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period.

The annual average concentration of PM2.5 in the whole district decreased from 63 micrograms per cubic meter in 2015 to 32 mcg/cu m in 2020. The ratio of days with good air quality increased from 66.3 percent in 2015 to 88.5 percent in 2020. The compliance rate of 18 water environmental quality cross-sections increased from 22.2 percent in 2015 to 100 percent in 2020. The forest coverage rate increased from 13.31 percent in 2015 to 16.05 percent in 2020. The public satisfaction rate with the environment increased from 67.38 percent in 2015 to 79.32 percent in 2020.
