Xuhang town in Jiading district, Shanghai, is applying advanced technologies to make traditional farming smarter, according to local media reports July 3.
The town purchased six plant-protection unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) this year, and encouraged local farmers to join a UAV squad to learn how to operate the drones. The town is now on a fast track to transforming into a farming innovation hub backed by cutting-edge technologies that make farming more precise and efficient.
Local farmer Jin Yue bought a plant-protection UAV to spray defoliant on his rice fields, and it only takes half a day to fertilize the 8-hectare field. He said that it helps farmers free themselves from heavy labor and makes farming much easier.
Local authorities said that they will increase investment in smart farming and attempt to promote use of UAVs, in an effort to accelerate the transformation of traditional agriculture and promote the healthy development of modern urbanization.
