Lianyi village in Huating town, Jiading district, Shanghai, has ramped up efforts to build a beautiful countryside over the years, paving the way for rural revitalization, according to a news report June 19.

Jiading government partnered with a local company to launch a project titled "Xiangyue Huating", aiming to beautify the village, strengthen infrastructure and upgrade tourism facilities.

Wu Xingquan, who has lived in Lianyi for more than 60 years, said that the old houses were built in the 1980s, are scattered throughout the village and have limited the development of Lianyi and led to wasted land use.

After two years of renovation, the village has grown into a pastoral complex integrating beautiful countryside, modern agriculture and rural tourism, helping increase villagers' incomes and promote sustainable development.

Many Jiangnan-style homestay facilities are nearly completed, and will bring great benefits to local people once they start operating.

In addition, the village rolled out an array of measures to make land use more efficient and promote the integrated development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, creating hundreds of jobs for local residents, and helping them to earn higher incomes without having to leave their hometown for work.

"We will offer more jobs in agricultural production and community management, and we hope that young people will come back to their hometown, in an effort to build Lianyi into a better and more dynamic village," said Li Meng, a village official.
