Jiading district in Shanghai plans to afforest more than 130 hectares in Anting town, with nearly 60 percent of the project already completed, local media reported June 21.
According to this year's government work plan, Jiading will build six ecological corridors across the district, including one along Wusong River.
The plan said that it will strive to improve the quality of its air and water, tighten regulations on soil and groundwater, and optimize the ecological system by afforesting 870 hectares of ecological corridors, 87 hectares of wooded areas, and 15,000 square meters of vertical planting this year. A total of 16 ecological corridors will be established in downtown Jiading by 2040.
Local authorities said that the government will pay more attention to city management, and build more green areas, such as pedestrian streets and leisure parks, with the aim of offering local residents a beautiful environment in which to take outdoor exercise and make Jiading a green model in Shanghai.
