Waigang town in Jiading district, Shanghai, was given an award by the local government for its high-quality development in new urbanization, according to local media reports May 28.
The town was included among the national pilot programs of new urbanization and standardization in 2016, the only town in Shanghai to be so recognized.
Over years of development, Waigang has become a model town in various aspects such as land use and management, and rural tourism.
Located in the northwest of Jiading, the town boasts 1,133 hectares of fertile farmland. It has explored a new way to achieve urbanization, paid more attention to the high-quality development of agriculture, and developed a more resource-saving and environment-friendly method of progress.
The town has set 88 standards for the management of its rural land, and established a top-level design for promoting the healthy development of modern urbanization.
In terms of land use and management, the town set up a standard system for the allocation, planning, management, preservation and utilization of rural land, which has led to rapid growth in its planting industry, and increased yields from the land.
