Jiading district of Shanghai will run a Public Cultural Week from March 24 to 31 at the Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre.

During the week six shows of five programs will be staged, including Shanghai Opera performances, musical concerts and dramas.

The Shanghai Traditional Orchestra will stage a Chinese folk musical concert. In addition, the Shanghai Opera performance "The Daughter of Dunhuang" will be performed by the Shanghai Opera Troupe. It is based on the real life of Fan Jinshi, third dean of Dunhuang Academy.

To ensure Public Cultural Week is as inclusive and accessible as possible, authorities have made sure to offer tickets at affordable prices as low as 30 yuan ($4.47), 50 yuan, and 80 yuan.

According to the chairman of Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre, Qin Tiji, tickets of the musical concert Tribute to Tony Awards were sold out half a month ago.

"Quality programs with low prices are attractive to locals who want to go to the theatre and receive informative and entertaining experiences."

A series of events will highlight this year's cultural week, including guzheng (21-string Chinese zither) performances, a poster exhibition of classic musical dramas and lectures given by artists.

First launched in 2015, Public Cultural Week aims to provide local residents with quality cultural programs and services. Over the past four years, the event has attracted an audience of more than 24,000, with the help of the Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre.
