Shanghai International Automobile City, located in Anting town of the city's Jiading district, was recently approved as a member of the 5G Automotive Association.
The auto city will work together with other members such as China Mobile, Huawei Technologies Co, and SAIC Motor to promote the application of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X), a key technology in smart vehicles, autonomous driving and intelligent transportation, in China.
It will also take part in analysis and research on technical needs, technological solutions, testing, frequency spectrums and standards, commercial modeling and market strategy.
Established in September 2016, the 5G Automotive Association brings together communication and auto enterprises to work out solutions for smart vehicles, intelligent transportation, and autonomous driving, and to accelerate their application.
According to insiders, the fifth generation (5G) mobile network will be tested by stages from 2017 to 2019 and will be put into commercial use in 2020.
Founded in 2001, Shanghai International Automobile City has developed into the country's leading auto industrial park and has formed a relatively complete auto industrial chain covering trade, R&D, manufacturing, education, and racing.
