Chinese F1 Grand Prix: 10 fast facts

By Owen Fishwick ( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2017-04-07

Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading district has been the home of the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix since 2004, hosting its 14th race this year.

Three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in China, with four victories to his name (2008, 2011, 2014, 2015).

Ferrari and Mercedes share the honors for constructors with the most wins on the circuit with four apiece.

Current world champion Nico Rosberg scored his first F1 win in China in 2012, followed by his 17th career victory in 2016. At the time it gave him the unwanted record of being the drivers with most victories to have never won a world title.

Hamilton has the most pole positions China with five, followed by Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso with three each.

Pole position has proved a great advantage at the circuit over the years with eight of the 13 races won from P1 on the grid.

Mark Webber is the only driver to have ever finished on the podium in China having not started inside the top 10, racing from 18th to third in 2011.

Michael Schumacher holds the lap record, registering a 1:32.238s in 2004.

Shanghai International Circuit has the longest straight in F1, between Turn 13 and the Turn 14 hairpin. At 1.209 kilometers it outstretches Abu Dhabi’s back straight by four meters.

In 2016, race in China took the record for having the most overtakes in dry conditions with 161.
