A meeting was held in Jiading district of Shanghai on Mar 8 to establish the council of a new experimental school backed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The school council will assist and supervise the school's construction and development. It will also help in fund raising.
During the meeting, Zhang Xu, deputy head of CAS Shanghai branch, was elected president of the school council, and Tang Guansheng, former president of Shanghai's Lu Wan Senior High School, was appointed as president of the new school.
The school has been developed based on the cooperation between CAS Shanghai branch and Jiading government initiated in early 2016. It will consist of a middle school and a primary school. Construction of the middle school began on Jan 24 and it is expected to be completed by June 2018.
Zhang Xu, the newly-elected president of the school council, said the school is an example of the growing cooperation in the field of education between CAS Shanghai and local government. Zhang also said the branch will use its scientific resources to develop into a leading science-focused experimental school.
