The final of an entrepreneurship competition kicked off in Nanxiang town, in the Jiading district of Shanghai, on Dec 23.

A total of 11 companies from the fields of smart hardware, cultural creation, smart healthcare, and other sectors competed in the contest and gave presentations about their business model, current development and future planning.

Based on strict evaluations by a panel of experts, the top three winners were named: Ningbo DOBI Medical Co, Shanghai Puqiu Systems Co, and Shanghai Tuoji Rail Transit Equipment Co.

Ningbo DOBI Medical, winner of first prize, is a joint venture with DOBI Medical International which is headquartered in Southborough, Massachusetts. The company stood out for its program to detect breast cancer in its early stages.

During the awards ceremony, Yao Fang, deputy Party secretary of Nanxiang, introduced the town's resources, advantages and supportive policies for startup firms.

The competition was launched by Tech 50, a business incubator located in Nanxiang, since 2013. It has helped increase the national exposure of Nanxiang and encouraged more companies to settle there.

More than 400 companies that participated in the competition over the years have moved to Nanxiang. The outstanding ones received strong financial support such as investment and loans.

Guyi Garden becomes digital scenic spot

Guyi Garden in Shanghai's Jiading district was recently rated as one of the 21 Shanghai digital scenic spots by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, local media outlets reported on Jan 19.
