Residents of Jiading district in Shanghai will soon have better access to medical services as Jiangqiao Hospital started construction on June 29.
District leaders attended the hospital's groundbreaking ceremony.
With a total investment of 539 million yuan ($81million), the hospital will cover a floor area of over 58,000 square meters and incorporate various clinics, a 24-hour emergency department and a medical examination center. It is designed to have 500 beds.

Its underground construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016, and after equipment installation and interior decoration, the hospital is expected to start its trial operation in the first half of 2019.
According to authorities, the hospital will focus on nurturing medical personnel and key disciplines and be dedicated to providing high-level, convenient and efficient medical services to locals.
In addition, it will improve regional health services and contribute to urbanization and social undertaking development in peri-urban areas.
