A parent-child paper quilling activity was held in Jiading district of shanghai on June 18, giving locals a taste of this traditional art, local media reported on June 22.
The activity is part of the district's celebration of the 11th National Cultural Heritage Day, which falls on the second Saturday of every June.
Paper quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative designs. It became popular in Europe during the 18th century when ladies from noble or royal families practiced the art.

Both parents and children enjoyed themselves practicing the art and created many beautiful works.
Organizers said the activity was expected to introduce the cultural heritage to more people and raise their awareness of cultural heritage protection.
