Jiading's first waste treatment plant which could treat kitchen waste with microbial technology will be put in use in this May.
The sewage plant covers an area of about 600 square meters with an investment of about 1.4 million yuan ($223,580). By making use of microbial technology, it could decompose kitchen waste into waste water and food residue. Through proper treatment, the waste water will be drained into the sewage system while the food residue can be made into agricultural fertilizers.
The plant is able to treat about 20 to 30 tons of kitchen waste a day, about the same amount of kitchen waste produced in Jiangqiao town, where the plant is located.
The district government has worked hard to recycle kitchen waste and waste from wet markets. Next to the biochemical treatment plant is a waste treatment spot which transforms about 10 tons of waste leaves and skin of vegetables from 14 wet markets in the town into fertilizer.
