A group of outstanding teachers from the US visited Shanghai’s Jiading district and attended an exchange and training program at the district’s Yingyuan Middle School on Sept 24.
Dyane Smokorowski, Kansas Teacher of the Year 2013, gave a lecture on project practice. She was a language arts teacher at a public school and professional development leader in technology integration. She believes in a project-based, student-centered classroom that helps students build skills in communication, planning, research and community service implementation.
The lecture focused on project planning, implementation and international project cooperation with other countries.

Young teachers from the district also discussed with Smokoroski on vocabulary acquisition and other issues after the lecture.
The National Teacher of the Year, founded in 1952, is the highest award for teachers in the US. There is only one winner every year, and the award is presented by the US president.
