The race-car team DIAN Racing, from Shanghai’s Tongji University, unveiled their pure electric car at Shanghai International Automobile City of the Jiading district on July 9, to show off their dual-motor technology designed by school’s Automotive Studies students.
The group got some support from the new energy vehicle center of the university and designed about 30 percent of the parts and components using 3D printing technology, which helped them cut the car weight by 65 percent and saved 90 percent on materials compared with traditional technology.
This new racecar is expected to take part in an e-car race put on by Formula Student China, an international automotive design contest for university students. This year’s contest will be held in Xiangyang, Hubei province from Oct 14 to 18 with 60 cars with internal combustion engines and 23 e-cars and teams expected to join the event.
