An arts festival opened at Lu Yanshao Art Gallery, in Shanghai’s Jiading district, featuring a total of 175 works created by physically disabled people, with an opening ceremony on May 12.
Some of the disabled artists gave live calligraphy, painting and other art demonstrations.
Li Zheng, deputy head of Jiading district, attended the event and announced the festival’s opening.
The festival includes activities for disabled people, such as the "My Dream" talent show, "Songs of Life" chorus contest, "Sunshine Bookstore" essay competition, "Take You by the Hand" speeches, and a logo design competition.
A set of 12 Chinese zodiac paper-cuts attracted many visitors. Bai Guangrong, who created the pieces, said that it took him several months to complete the works.
A calligraphy work also received warm praise from visitors. “It is hard to imagine that the pieces came from a disabled person,” said a visitor. “It requires more effort than a healthy person!”
