Jingdong sales balloon 10,000-fold in a decade

Jingdong's ‘Asia No.1’ logistics center is almost finished and, as Zhao Guoqing a chairman of the Jingdong Mall, explains, it is 25 meters high and functions automatically, whereas warehouses built by ProLogis Inc, the world’s most advanced warehouse operator, are no more than 9 meters.

Jingdong, in the Jiading industrial district of Shanghai, has been doing business for nearly 10 years now facing reality with technological innovations and annual revenues have gone from 10 million to 100 billion yuan, for a 10,000-fold growth, while its e-commerce has continued to expand, from express deliveries in large cities, to agricultural logistics, to supply chains.

Now, its ‘Asia No.1’ logistics center is almost finished and, as Zhao Guoqing a chairman of the Jingdong Mall, explains, it is 25 meters high and functions automatically, whereas warehouses built by ProLogis Inc, the world’s most advanced warehouse operator, are no more than 9 meters.

The entire logistics center will be the size of 30 football fields, or 230,000 square-meters in all, with a much increased daily processing capacity.

More than 120 million people have used Jingdong services, and the company has 32,000 employees now, with 3 million square meters of storage space across China, covering more than 1200 districts and counties in more than 30 cities. Its logistics can guarantee delivery on the same day if an order is place before 11 am or before noon the next day if the order is received before midnight, for speedy delivery, every day, with only an hour-and-a-half per delivery, in seven cities with big centers.
