Despite the bad weather, tourism boomed in the city of Yantai in Shandong province during the National Day Holiday (Oct 1-7), as the tourism bureau and tourism association organized various activities.
During the seven-day holiday, Yantai welcomed 4.03 million visitors, generating revenue of 4.46 billion yuan ($700.59 million), a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent and 12.8 percent respectively.
The Yantai Mountain scenic area offered a soft sculpture art exhibition, a live-action performance and a photography contest.
Other activities included a wine tasting festival in Changyu Wine Culture Museum, an autumn culture and tourism festival in Qixia's Moushi Manor and a pingshu (storytelling) performance in Zhaoyuan's gold mining town.
Rural tourism has become increasingly popular. One and two-day tours featuring fruit picking, hot springs and mountain climbing attracted many visitors.
Some tourist attractions offered discounted tickets on WeChat and free admission for tour guides and visitors whose birthdays coincided with the holiday.
