China bags five gold medals as Finswimming World Championships concludes

Host China won five gold medals in the 18th CMAS Finswimming World Championships, which came to a close in Yantai, Shandong province on July 21. It had begun on July 17.

After five-day competitions, Russia topped the medal table with seven gold, 12 silver and nine bronze medals. South Korea secured second place with six gold and seven silver medals, followed by China that won five gold, five silver and three bronze medals.
Organized by the World Underwater Federation (formally Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques) and the Chinese Underwater Association (CUA), the 2015 Finswimming World Championships attracted 320 athletes from 29 countries and regions including China, Russia, South Korea, Italy, Germany and Ukraine.

Gaunard Michel, the president of Finswimming Federation of World Underwater Federation spoke highly of the event that witnessed six new records. He also commended Yantai for its excellent preparation for the championships.

Michel said that it was the second time for Yantai to hold an international finswimming competition, which will raise Yantai's profile around the world and boost the development of Finswimming World Championships.
