A museum at Laizhou is dedicated to keeping alive the rural memory through displaying artifacts, documents and pictures that record countryside traditions and rural development.
Located at Xiaorenjia village, Tushan township, the museum showcases such items as salt products, objects made of straw as well as fishing tools that are reminiscent of rural life in the past.
At the salt culture section, various raw materials, tools and products for different purposes are displayed. The section is established to explain how salt is extracted and produced.
Objects made of straw are also displayed. They are quite popularand sold overseas. Another highlight is fishing tools, although most of them are no longer in use in daily life.
“The museum is a living archive. It helps us remember our past,” said a senior township official. He said the museum has attracted many visitors, including those living in neighboring villages. The official said the museum will be expanded to showcase rural traditions and development, help protect local history and carry forward traditional culture.
