The city of Yantai in Shandong province will collect global ideas for a city slogan starting August 5, with a received warm response from the public.

For the past 11 days, organizers received more than 5,500 submissions from around the country. They mainly focused on Yantai's apples, wine, mountains and maritime resources.

The slogan must display Yantai's distinctive culture, resources and city image in 10 words. It can be either Chinese or English.

The submissions will run until the end of September, when the public and experts will be invited to vote for the slogans. The adopted slogan will be awarded with 10,000 yuan ($1,607.79). Two other shortlisted slogans will be awarded with 5,000 yuan each. The activity will also have 30 consolation prizes.

Anyone interested in the activity can submit his or her works to the website http://www.shm.com.cn/, Yantai Daily's WeChat account "ytdaily" or e-mail yt6789710@126.com or 96110@ytdaily.com. Another way is to send letters to the publicity department of Yantai municipal government (No 54, North Street, Zhifu district, Yantai).

The activity aims to lift Yantai's profile and attract more visitors to travel, invest and live in the city.

Facing Japan and South Korea and neighboring the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, Yantai is blessed with picturesque scenery. As the only "International Grape and Wine City" in Asia and the hometown of fruit, Yantai is a hot tourist destination for visitors from around the world. This move will add to the city's image.
