The coastal city of Yantai in Shandong province has made it onto the "2015 China's urban classification advantages" list, ranking as one of the top three most livable cities in the country. The results of the list were revealed in the China Institute of City Competitiveness' (CICC) survey on June 23.
Shenzhen took the top spot, while Zhuhai came in second; both cities are located in Guangdong province. Yantai also ranked fifth and 10th respectively on the lists of 'China's happiest cities’ and 'most beautiful cities.' Yantai's counties of Longkou, Laizhou, Zhaoyuan and Penglai were entered into the list of 'China's top 100 competitive counties'.
Yantai was one of the first cities in China to open up and is an important economic center in the circum-Bohai-Sea area. It serves as a logistics hub connecting the Beijing-Tianjin Economic Circle, Yangtze River Delta and the Northeast Asia Economic Rim. It is also a gateway city to Japan and South Korea.
Surrounded by mountains and seas, Yantai is blessed with a picturesque landscape and four distinct seasons. It has been honored as a livable and beautiful city on numerous occasions.
The 2015 China's urban classification advantages ranking comprises of 25 lists, covering provincial comprehensive competitiveness, governments' honesty and efficiency, cities' development potential, investment environment and tourism, and counties' competitiveness.
Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces topped the ranking in terms of provincial comprehensive competitiveness.
CICC's rating system objectively evaluates a host of factors to form an assessment in 358 cities from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
