Yantai city in Shandong province reported a steady increase in the per capita income of rural residents in 2014.
The per capita net income of local farmers reached 16,656.35 yuan ($2,722.90) in 2014. Migrant laborers in cities contributed much to the increased income levels. The per capita wage of the rural residents averaged 7,755 yuan ($1,268), a year-on-year increase of 14.2 percent. Wages occupied 46.6 percent of farmers' total income.
Self-employment and financial aid from local government also played a significant role in increasing farmers' income.
