The opening ceremony of Jao Tsung-I's art exhibition was held at the National Museum of China in Beijing on the afternoon of April 28. Zhang Rong, president of Shandong University (SDU), was invited to attend the ceremony, at which he visited Jao Tsung-I - an Emeritus Professor of the University of Hong Kong, member of China's Central Research Institute of Culture and History (CRICH), and an honorary doctorate of SDU.

Since this year marks Jao's 100th birthday, the National Museum of China held an art exhibition to honor his academic and artistic achievements. Exhibited academic works include hundreds of books, academic papers, multiform manuscripts and letters, as well as works related to Jao by other scholars. The artistic work exhibited includes various calligraphies and paintings by Jao from the 1950s to the present day.

As a famous Chinese scholar, poet, calligrapher and painter, Jao Tsung-I has dedicated most of his life to Chinese cultural studies. His research fields include the study of Dunhuang, paleography, archeology, literature, philology, musicology and history. Jao was awarded an honorary doctorate of Shandong University in 2014. He also presented his inscription to SDU to express his praise for SDU's academic achievements over its hundred-year long development.

Prior to the art exhibition, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Jao in Beijing on April 27, 2015.
