The coastal city of Yantai in Shandong province welcomed a total of 935,300 visitors during the three days of Qingming Festival. The visitors generated tourism revenue of 1.05 billion yuan ($169 million), an increase of 8.07 percent and 13.17 percent compared to 2014.
Self-driving tours and short-distance tours were the main preference among tourists. Longkou, Haiyang, Laishan, Penglai and Zhaoyuan, attracted flocks of tourists eager to try some mountain climbing, fruit picking, fishing and cycling.
"Red tourism" scenic spots, such as the Mine Warfare scenic spot and Memorial museum of General Xu Shiyou, were also popular among tourists who wanted to have a real-life glimpse of China's modern history.
The security supervision and 24-hour tourism hotline also contributed to the booming tourism market of Yantai.
