Penglai Ancient Ship Museum, located in the city of Penglai, Shandong province, has collected various precious cultural relics that originated in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, such as ancient ships, anchors, shells and ceramics.
The museum uses modern multimedia equipment, combined with artistic forms, to show the sculptures, murals, scene reconstruction and drawings of ancient ships. It also features site excavation to help tourists appreciate the profound cultural background of the Maritime Silk Road.
Yuan Xiaochun, curator of the museum, said that the ancient ships are of great research value in spite of their incompleteness.
Penglai served as an important port for China’s Maritime Silk Road in Shandong province in ancient times.
