Shandong's coastal city of Qingdao plans to build a cruise liner port to stimulate the city's cruise and yachting industry, according to the municipal government's work report.
Construction plans for the program are currently awaiting the approval of the municipal government, according to Wang Shaoyun, vice president of Qingdao Port (Group) Co.
The home port is planned to be completed in 2013, and mainly covers Dock No 6 of Qingdao Port, Wang Shaoyun said.
Dock No.6, which currently has about 12 meters of water depth, will be increased to 14 to 15 meters to accommodate cruise liners, said Wang Zhiyong, senior economist at Qingdao Port (Group) Co.
Once the cruise liner port is completed, cargo ships will be rerouted to Qingdao's Dongjiakou Port, Wang Shaoyun said.
