2010-06-03

Clean energy industries are being rapidly developed in Tonghe Industrial Park of Pingdu city, Shandong province, and it is leading in building a model town of low carbon economy.

"It is the way to go for Tonghe to develop new industries including new energy and new materials”, said Wang Fujun, Secretary of Tonghe Party Committee.

So far, Qingdao Nai Te New Energy Co., Ltd’s lithium iron phosphate cathode material project, with an investment of 200 million Yuan and Hao De solar energy technology project, with an investment of 60 million Yuan have opened its companies here. In August 2009, Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and process of Chinese Academy of Sciences has also set up base here, with a total investment of 210 million Yuan. A test platform of 6,000 square meters is now under construction.

The park has also started upgrading its high energy consumption and serious pollution enterprises. Wastewater collection system of electroplating center has been upgraded, which will enable 26 enterprises get acceptance by the EIA(Electronic Industries Association). Qingdao Qin Xu New Material Co., Ltd invested 4 million Yuan to develop a new generation of energy-saving glass appliances, which will reduce energy consumption by 70%.

A plan of developing 20 square kilometers of eco-industrial park has been postponed, focusing instead on the development of new energy, new materials, eco-tourism, leisure and creative industries. In the first half of this year, Tonghe signed an agreement with Yong Xin International Group, with plans to invest $300 million to build Qingdao Yong Xinhua eco-tourism Creative Industry Park. After the completion of this project, it will provide 2,600 jobs for the local people, which will also go on to provide a more developed service industry for the park.

Tonghe also promotes the use of solar street lights, and 30,000 indoor high efficiency lighting energy-saving lamps have been introduced to local families. A demonstration and application of industrial gas system is expected to start supplying life methane to some of the villages.
