The city of Weifang in Shandong province is preparing to launch a “Shandong-Taiwan Town” project in September to boost its economic and trade cooperation with Taiwan.
According to Weifang deputy mayor Chu Baojie, the 66.7 hectare town is the only Taiwan-themed town in mainland China. The town will be home to Taiwan industrial parks, research and development centers, corporate headquarters as well as hi-tech enterprises, creating an area where Taiwanese can set up businesses and live.
Several zones featuring Taiwan flavors are planned, including exhibition services, business office, residential, leisure and entertainment zones as well as the Taiwan scenic zone.
Weifang is the host city of the Shandong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Fair, north China’s oldest and largest economic exchange activity with Taiwan. This year, the city has received interest from 30 major business groups and nearly 1,000 top businessmen from Taiwan.
The 15th Shandong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Fair will be held in September.
