The China Yantai Car Race began two days ago at the Yantai International Expo Center.
The race includes a “drifting” contest, in which contestants must control high-powered cars as they slide sideways through a special course. Racecar drivers from Japan, the United States, New Zealand, and other countries are participating.
According to the local Management Center for Automobile and Motorcycle Sports and the Yantai local government, which are organizing the contest, the race will last for two days and there a total of 16 to 20 cars are participating. They are each worth an average of three million Yuan.
Yantai’s automotive industry first emerged in the 1980s and has grown dramatically since then. In 2000, Shanghai GM, and Northern Mercedes-Benz, and other major car manufacturers have opened factories and offices in Yantai. In 2008, the city produced an annual output of 185,000 vehicles.
As a result, during the opening ceremony of the China Yantai Car Race, the Chinese Federation of Automobile Sports gave Yantai a honorary title: “Mobility Capital.”
