Communication
The Beijing-Guangzhou Grand Channel, Beijing-Fuzhou Speedway Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Beijing-Jiulong Railway run through the city from north to south while Yanzhou-Shijiazhuang Railway and Rizhao-Dongming Speedway do so from east to west. Jining has its advantage of communication with 3 railways, 3 speedways and 4 national highways interlaced into a net which is very convenient for various passengers. At present, with Qufu airport built, domestic air routes have been opened, offering services from Jining to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities and the Grand Channel, which could bear kiloton flotillas that are hence to reach the Yangtse River directly, raises the river transportation capacity of the city to make up more than 80% of that of the whole province.
History and Tourism
Jining, seen as the cradle of Chinese civilization which brought up Confucius, Mencius, and other ancient sages, has fused the features of culture of northern and southern China to form its own characteristics since the Grand Channel opened. It has variety of cultural relics (9 state-level sites, 50 provincial relics and hundreds of municipal spots), which have made its tourism unique and out of which there are three outstanding cultural relic sites under state-level protection: Confucius Family Mansion, Temple and Cemetery. The mansion claims to be “the best mansion of China” and “Historical and Cultural Heritage” approved by UNESCO; the old-line magnitude temple is deemed to be among the highest rank; and the cemetery is the largest artificial garden in ancient China. These relics attract thousands of worshippers and tourists both at home and from overseas every year. Its tourism has taken shape: there are cultural heritages in the east, Liang Mountain scenic spot in the west, beautiful wetlands in the south and Buddhist temples in the north.
