National media outlet lauds Sri Lankan M Dam

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2018-11-12 14:32

China's national media outlet people.cn named the Moragahakanda Dam (M Dam), located in Sri Lanka, an example of POWERCHINA's monumental achievements in overseas construction on Feb 5, 2018.

M Dam entered commercial operation on Dec 31, 2017 and is providing abundant clean energy for Sri Lanka's economic and social development.

As the largest water conservancy project in the country, M Dam can impound 600 million cubic meters of water and has an installed power capacity of 25 megawatt.

M Dam and the Kaluganga Dam (also constructed by Sinohydro), store rainy seasons' surplus water for dry seasons. The diverted water will arrive in northern Sri Lanka via a channel running across the country's central provinces.

They are dubbed the Sri Lankan counterparts to the "South-to-North Water Diversion Project", receiving wide praise from both local residents and government leaders.
