Shenyang Railway Station has joined a growing number of stations that now allow passengers to preorder takeout food and have it delivered to their train seats, following the launch of the new service on June 5.
Among the major businesses offering takeout food at the station are large fast-food joints and restaurants offering local specialties.
Shenyang is one of 11 new stations offering this service, with a total of 38 railway stations now allowing passengers to have takeout food delivered to their seats.
China Railway Corp first launched the service at selected stations on July 17, 2017, with the company’s website and app giving customers the option of preordering a meal.
Initially, orders and cancellations needed to be made within 2 hours of a train departing a station, however this has since been cut to 1 hour.
And it was only available at 27 high-speed rail stations in 24 cities, mainly provincial capitals and major metropolises including Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou and Nanjing.
The 11 new stations offering the service are also those that are particularly busy or located in provincial capitals.
The service aims to meet the increasingly diverse demands of our customers, as well as increase the range of food available on our train services, said the State-owned network operator in a statement.
