Bagua Commercial District in Shenyang reopened to the public on Sept 27, half a year after it started reconstruction work.
A performance mainly conducted by local residents, as well as a light show, was staged to celebrate the reopening of the commercial district.
Bagua Commercial District, located in Heping district, covers an area of 7.7 hectares. It was once the most prosperous commercial district in Shenyang.
The commercial district consists of eight streets constructed by the principle of Bagua in 1918.
The Eight Diagrams, or Bagua, are eight trigrams practiced in Taoist cosmology, which is a religious, philosophical and ritual tradition emphasizing harmonious living, all of which originates back to China. Bagua represents reality’s fundamental principles, seen through a wide range of eight interrelated concepts.
In 2017, Heping district made a plan to turn the previous Bagua Commercial District into a commercial district integrating cultural promotion, shopping and sightseeing.
In merely over half a year, Bagua District has witnessed clear changes with the participation of local residents, commercial tenants and experts on urban construction.
Currently, the first batches of cultural and commercial projects have settled in Bagua Commercial District. The government of Heping district also launched preferential policies to encourage businesses to settle in Bugua Commercial District.
