A group of reporters from domestic internet media outlets embarked on a fact-finding tour of Liaoning province in September, exploring how the province in Northeast China is taking advantage of the national strategy for rejuvenating the old Northeast China industrial base.
From Sept 20 to 21, the group visited Hunnan district in Liaoning’s capital city.
Hunnan district is a national-level high-tech zone approved by the State Council in 1991. It’s also the home of the Shenyang Area of China (Liaoning) Free Trade Zone established on April 10, 2017.
Hunnan is attempting to turn itself into an industrial cluster for e-commerce, civil aviation, heath care, and biological medicine during a key point of economic and industrial transformation.
“The number of high-tech businesses in Hunnan has reached 196, and it is expected to reach 200 by the end of this year,” according to Wang Yibin, Party secretary of Hunan district.
The volume of e-commerce trade in Hunnan district hit 70 billion yuan ($10.62 billion) in 2016, year-on-year growth of 21 percent. E-commerce maintained strong growth momentum in 2017, and from January to August, trade volume reached 45 billion yuan.
In the heath care sector, Hunnan district is home to 21 businesses involved in producing medical equipment and related technologies. The comprehensive technology level and production ability in Hunnan is the best in the country.
Representative businesses in the district include the top three e-commerce giants in China ––Alibaba Group and JD.com; as well as Neusoft Medical and SYSMED Medical, which are both leading manufacturers of medical equipment and service providers in China.
Hunnan district has a solid technological foundation attracting both businesses and investments.
There are nine national-level science and technology research institutions and laboratories, 11 cross-border research agencies, 23 platforms for technology research and product testing, as well as 14 industrial alliances. Meanwhile, Hunnan district has over 50 experts and scholars.
However, it is not only Hunnan district with promising prospects; the whole region has a bright future, according to Wang Yibin.
