SHENYANG, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- A major airport in northeast China's Liaoning Province was closed Monday for the second time in two days as runways were covered by a thick layer of snow, authorities said.
Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning, closed at 1:10 p.m. and was expected to remain shut until 8 p.m. provided crews cleared the runways, airport officials announced.
The airport was closed for more than five hours Sunday due to the snow. Scores of flights were canceled or delayed.
The number of flights affected by the airport's second closure was not immediately available.
Meanwhile, at least 10 highways in Liaoning were partially closed due to the snow, traffic officials said.
Snow started to fall in Liaoning on Saturday and is expected to continue till Tuesday. In some areas, snow was 9 centimeters deep on the ground, the provincial weather forecast bureau said.
