Transport resumes after snow ends in northeast China province

Updated: 2010-11-18

Transport in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province returned to normal Sunday as the blizzard conditions that delayed more than 80 flights and stranded thousands of passengers ended.

All five major highways in Heilongjiang reopened at 10 a.m., after their closure Thursday afternoon led to the cancellation of about 2,300 passenger coach services and stranded 43,000 passengers, according to a spokesman with Harbin highway bus station.

Taiping International airport in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang, resumed normal operations late Saturday.

The heavy snow, which swept across northeast China's Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning provinces and north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, lasted for more than 60 hours.
