The 2010 China Dandong Yalu River International Tourism Festival opened on September 8 in Dandong, northeast of China’s Liaoning province.
Many officials attended the opening ceremony in the evening. The attendees also included businessmen and government officials from tourism agencies and organizations from within China and around the globe.
The festival, co-organized by the National Tourism Administration and the government of Liaoning Province, and co-hosted by the Dandong Tourism Bureau and Dandong Municipal government, will run from September 8 to 14. A series of events are on the planned agenda, including a large-scale show of festooned vehicles, a grand fireworks gala, Tai Ji performances, badminton, a “Night of Yalu River” evening party and fruit picking.
China is stimulating economic development by boosting domestic demand, which is why Liaoning Province is promoting the Liaoning Coastal Economic Zone. Through the tourism festival, Dandong will publicize its tourism resources and build its image as an international tourist destination.
Dandong is located on the west bank of the Yalu River, in southeast Liaoning Province, in central Northeast Asia. Across the Yalu River is Sinuiju, a city in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which makes Dandong a key point on the Yellow Sea Economic Rim and the Bohai Sea Economic Rim.
