Zhongguancun international incubator opens in Ottawa
Ottawa International Incubator Center (OIIC), a branch of Zhongguancun Development Group, was established in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, on Dec 11. It is China's first international technology incubator center in Canada.
Xu Qiang, general manager of Zhongguancun Development Group, addressed the opening ceremony. He said the founding of the OIIC is a milestone in Zhongguancun Development Group's strategy to expand into the overseas market.
The new incubator center aims to combine Ottawa's product research and development, industry agglomeration and competitive edges with Beijing's science and technology resources. It will create a suitable environment for industry development, technology R&D and enterprise incubation for high-tech and science companies.
According to Xu, the OIIC will set up special project investment funds and promote the development of Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park at the same time. It will create opportunities for talent and technology exchange in both Zhongguancun and Ottawa. Both sides will cooperate on high-tech products and industrial development.
Wang Qiming, Chinese scientific counselor to Canada, said China and Canada regard each other as an important technology partner. The combination of Canadian R&D advantages and Chinese market and production advantages will bring a win-win result for enterprises from both countries.
"This will be the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship. It will benefit not only Ottawa and Beijing, but also Canada and China," added Jim Watson, mayor of Ottawa.
